The most common overlapping condition with ME/CFS is fibromyalgia, a syndrome with pain as the major symptom. If pain is not present, the patient cannot receive a diagnosis of fibromyalgia.
“Whilst trying to explain to someone, what living with fibromyalgia/CFS is like, I said “Imagine if you had a job which you enjoyed and you desperately needed, but every day you went to work wondering whether you would be sacked and there was no way of predicting whether it would be in the next hour or next day. That is how I feel living with fibro. This dreadful disease has the ability to rob me of my confidence even on a “good day”. – Janet Spencer, KZN
